CK Power begins commercial operations at Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 1 to boost domestic electricity generating capacity

CK Power, leading power development company of Thailand and ASEAN region, commenced commercial operations at Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 1 on 28 June 2013 after the construction is fully completed, marking its readiness to supply electricity to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand under 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with aim to enhance domestic electricity generating capacity.

Dr. Supamas Trivisvavet, Managing Director, CK Power Plc. (CKP), said that "our investment in Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 1 is part of CK Power's commitment to expanding investments in power business that yield good returns and contribute to the society and country. The commencement of commercial operations of the plant on 28 June 2013, apart from being be a crucial factor to generate strong growth for CK Power in the second half of the year, also plays a vital part in enhancing Thailand's domestic electricity generating capacity."

Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 1, located in Bangpa-in Industrial Estate, Ayuttaya, is run by Bangpa-in Cogeneration Company Limited (BIC), the operator of gas-fired cogeneration power plant. The plant has total capacity of 117.5 MW and 19.6 tons per hour of steam, and secured 25-year Power Purchase Agreement at the contracted capacity of 90 MW with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). The remaining electricity and steam of the plant will be supplied to factories in Bangpa-in Industrial Estate.

Currently BIC has registered capital of Baht 1,370 million, with shareholders comprising CK Power Plc., holding 65% ownership; PTT Public Company Limited, holding 25% ownership; the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, holding 8% ownership, and the general public, holding 2% ownership respectively.

In addition, BIC is expanding its capacity with the construction of Bangpa-in Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 2, located in the adjacent area of the Phase 1 plant. The Phase 2 plant has total capacity of 120 MW and 20 tons per hour of steam, and secured 25-year Power Purchase Agreement at the contracted capacity of 90 MW with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). The remaining electricity and steam of the plant will be supplied to factories in Bangpa-in Industrial Estate. The plant construction is expected to be completed and its commercial operations start in June 2017.
